Artwork Progess - Adrian's 'Red Sticks'
Adrian has his 'sticks' laid out in his studio, but they aren't red yet. The steel poles have sealed bases and caps so that moisture and weather don't get inside. Some pics are below to give you an idea of what he is dealing with. Heavy metal!
Excavations for footings will be conducted on-site on Monday, 31st August. Footings are the concrete supports in the ground that will hold the poles vertically - or at the angles that Adrian has devised for his work to be presented. Excavation for footings for Simone's work is happening on the same day with installation to occur soon afterwards.

Hi Alex
Adrian would probably be better at addressing your comments than me!
My understanding is that the red colour was chosen to link into the cultural connection with Chinatown. It is certainly an "in your face" colour, but it will certainly make the site seen! This also sets up an interesting tension with other natural elements in the park and Simone's Swamp Forms, which do have a very organic nature in form, texture and colour.
The rhythm produced by different heights is a great idea, but Adrian has addressed this in a different way. He is painting a silver section on each pole at varying heights and widths. This will provide a different view from various approaches in the park and a visual rhythm that changes as you move through the park.
Any comments Adrian? Others?

hey,
i know i only was there for the first meeting, due to other commitments, however, i thought while im still being emailed i might as well add my comments. Firstly if what i say useless, disregard it because i missed out on probably vital details from the second and third meeting, and secondly these are just some opinions and sometimes i am critical some please bear with me. I think the concept of the poles is unique without it seeming pretentious to outside viewers, however i think it will look better if instead of the poles being a really bright red colour if they were instead a rusty/brown colour, so it will look really natural and not be so in your face. Also if they were set at different levels i think it could be interesting
