Branch Seats
Missing form the park is seating; a spot to stop, meet, eat, think, relax and to look. As a team we have looked at the possibility of seating and incorporating use of ready made pre cast concrete cubes that could possibly be drawn into the equation by in kind support from BCC. One idea tabled in initial meetings was the idea of treating the surface of these rather nondescript concrete cubes with text or even transforming them into dice. Below quick sketch of dice idea rendered to see how it would look. From process of drawing up images to visualize you can begin to see if the concept will work and how it stands up to the brief. More suitable ways maybe to incorporate further text so the reading is more loaded and not so literal......
One of the original thoughts was to mimic the very distinctive movement and form of the dominant poinciana tree into fluid sculptural forms that combines seating elements. The idea being that these random shapes are dotted around the drip apron of the tree, simply made from rolled steel tube of various diameters cut/welded to form the shape. Wooden seats can then be added where tube height corresponds to a comfortable sitting height. The forms can also be designed to be self supporting and not reliant to large foundations, simply a small bed of gravel and at key points indiscreet steel cable tensioned to in ground screw piles that resist upload movement and the occasional un-sober participant from relocating them.
The shape and size of the elements can vary considerably, here just quick cad sketches.....

Hello Melissa
Really great to hear from you.
I agree with you regarding the curves and they certainly reflect the arching nature of the Poinciana branches as Adrian mentioned in his blurb. We may not be able to afford them though! Too little money and probably other ideas that address the brief much more strongly.
Did you have a look at the 'red sticks' and Simone's work, plus some of the text work that Adrian looked at?
Anyway, great to see you thinking about this and communicating your thoughts.
Cheers
Peter
I like the idea of the branch seating plan as the shape follows the idea of the natural form of the tree branches. It gives off a calming feel with the curves of the pipes and seating.
Compared to the harsh edges in the cube seats, the dice idea is more comic than relaxing.
But great ideas! very impressed!
